Autonome-kitchen was designed and developed with the following goals in mind:

We achieve this by having our group of autistic students try each recipe on their own. We inquire on every hesitation and listen to every question they have on any given step in the recipe. From this we improve the problematic steps and try again until there are no hesitations and questions.
Simple
If the solution isn’t understood it isn’t simple enough.
We believe simplicity is a must to ensure the recipe steps are understood by everyone. We’ve designed the Autonome-kitchen toolkit with unique colors and used corresponding pictograms to minimize the use of words in the steps. Videos for tasks, e.g. “Mix flour and sugar in bowl 1 using a whisk”, and integrated timers to help with the duration of tasks, we’ve turned complex tasks into simple ones.
Achievable
Learning to cook can be a daunting task, especially if you’ve never tried it before.
For this reason we’ve chosen recipes that are delicious and easy to cook. Having a sense of achievement is an important part of learning. The more one succeeds, the more they are likely to continue learning.
